Get away with us for a long August Bank Holiday weekend as we travel to the beautiful English Riviera! With a traditional seaside hotel, nightly entertainment and plenty of time to explore, this is a wonderful way to enjoy the final long weekend of the summer.
Leaving South Wales, we travel south-west towards Devon, stopping for a lunchtime break in Taunton, the county town of Somerset. With a good selection of shops, cafés and places to eat, it’s a pleasant place to stretch your legs and enjoy some free time.
We then continue to the Riviera Hotel in Torquay, situated just a short walk from the seafront. This large, traditional seaside hotel offers a friendly and welcoming base for our three-night stay, with carvery-style evening meals and a full English breakfast included each morning.
The hotel also features an indoor swimming pool and its own Show Bar, where you can enjoy evening entertainment throughout your stay.
Torquay itself has plenty to offer. The beach, promenade and marina are all within walking distance, with cafés, bars and restaurants overlooking the water. You may wish to browse the town’s shops, take a ride on the land train, enjoy a boat trip or simply find a sunny spot and watch the world go by.
Before booking: The Riviera Hotel is a large hotel with bedrooms located throughout several areas of the building. Guests wishing to be situated close to reception or the restaurant should let us know when booking, although requests cannot be guaranteed. Guests with limited mobility are advised to review the hotel’s access information and contact us before booking to discuss any individual requirements.
Today we include an excursion to Plymouth, Britain’s historic Ocean City.
We’ll set you down close to the Barbican, a charming waterfront area filled with independent shops, cafés, restaurants and historic buildings. Here you can visit the famous Mayflower Steps, stroll around Sutton Harbour or perhaps enjoy lunch beside the water.
A short distance away is Plymouth Hoe, where you’ll find open green spaces, wonderful sea views and the iconic Smeaton’s Tower lighthouse. Those looking for a little retail therapy can head into the modern city centre and Drake Circus Shopping Centre.
You’ll have plenty of free time to explore Plymouth at your own pace before returning to Torquay.
Today is completely free for you to enjoy Torquay as you please.
You might choose to relax beside the sea, browse the shops, enjoy a leisurely lunch or explore the harbour and marina. Boat trips and ferries operate from the waterfront, including services to the picturesque fishing town of Brixham, subject to weather and availability.
However you choose to spend your day, Torquay offers all the ingredients for a relaxing Sunday by the seaside.
After breakfast, we bid farewell to Torquay and begin our journey home.
Subject to traffic and suitable weather conditions, we plan to stop in Weston-super-Mare, giving you the chance to enjoy one final seaside visit. Take a stroll along the promenade, visit the famous Grand Pier or enjoy lunch overlooking the beach before we continue across the Severn and return to South Wales.
We have a number of pick up points available for this break as shown below...
