Escape to the coast with us for a relaxing long weekend in Torquay, one of the best-loved resorts on the English Riviera. With its palm-lined seafront, lively marina, sandy beach and traditional seaside charm, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a few days away.
Leaving South Wales, we travel south-west and make a lunchtime stop in Taunton, the county town of Somerset. There will be time to find something to eat, browse the shops or enjoy a gentle stroll before we continue our journey into Devon.
From Taunton, it is just over an hour to the Riviera Hotel in Torquay, where we check in for our three-night stay. Your break includes accommodation, a full English breakfast each morning and carvery-style evening meals.
Located approximately 200 yards from the seafront, the hotel provides a welcoming base for exploring Torquay. Facilities include an indoor swimming pool and the Show Bar, with evening entertainment during your stay.
Torquay itself has plenty to offer. The beach is just a short walk away, while the marina is lined with yachts, cafés, bars and restaurants. You may wish to enjoy a speedboat ride, take the ferry across to Brixham or simply find a sunny spot and watch the world go by with a coffee or something a little cooler.
The town also offers a good selection of familiar high-street names, independent shops and traditional seaside attractions. With the land train stopping close to the hotel, it is easy to explore even if you do not fancy walking too far.
Before you book: The Riviera Hotel is a large hotel. If you would prefer a room closer to reception or the restaurant, please let us know at the time of booking and we will be happy to make a request on your behalf.
Guests with limited mobility are advised to read the hotel’s access statement before booking and to contact us to discuss any individual requirements. All requests remain subject to availability.
Today, you can join us on an included excursion to the historic waterfront city of Plymouth.
We begin in the Barbican, one of the oldest and most characterful parts of the city. Here, you can see the famous Mayflower Steps, explore the cobbled streets and browse the shops, cafés and restaurants around the harbour.
Nearby, Plymouth Hoe offers wide-open green spaces and wonderful views across Plymouth Sound, making it a lovely place to relax and watch the ships pass by.
For those who prefer a little retail therapy, the more modern city centre is home to Drake Circus Shopping Centre and a wide variety of shops. Whether you choose history, shopping or the waterfront, the day is yours to enjoy at your own pace.
Today is completely free for you to enjoy Torquay as you please.
You may wish to relax by the seafront, browse the shops, visit the marina or take a ferry to nearby Brixham. Alternatively, simply enjoy the hotel facilities and make the most of a leisurely day on the English Riviera.
After breakfast, we say goodbye to Torquay and begin our journey home.
Weather and time permitting, we make a final seaside lunchtime stop in Weston-super-Mare. There will be time to enjoy the promenade, find a bite to eat or take one last look at the coast before we continue across the bridge and back into Wales.
We have a number of pick up points available for this break as shown below...
