RÜDESHEIM - A GERMAN CHRISTMAS MARKETS HOLIDAY!
Join us as we head to the land of the Christmas Market, Germany!
The markets are usually set amongst some of the most stunning medieval buildings and squares, with each location bringing its own local delicacies and traditions that ooze German charm.
So step on for the aroma of bratwurst and ginger and get ready for the most authentic mulled wine you'll have this Christmas!
Day One
Departing South Wales early in the morning we head to the South East of England, and from here we cross over to France and on to Liege in Belgium for our overnight stop at the Globales Post Hotel Liege. Our stay here includes a basic buffet style dinner and continental breakfast the following morning
Day Two
After breakfast we'll make our way to the city of Cologne. Is it in France or is it in Germany??.. it's been disputed for centuries..but this clash of culture brings the city and its Christmas markets to life. Take in landmarks such as the mighty Dom (the cathedral) and find your favourite gifts at the stalls and shops.
From here it's on to our base for the next three nights, Hotel Felsenkeller in the heart of Rüdesheim. Here you’ll be treated to evening meals and breakfast each morning and be able to explore the town on your doorstep.
Please note that on the evening of your arrival at the hotel a set three course menu will be served.
Day Three- Free in Rüdesheim
Nestled on the banks of the Rhine, Rüdesheim is famed for it's wine making, so don’t be surprised to find many of the cafes and stalls selling its local drink! Wander the the half timbered houses,take a stroll down Drosselgasse in the old town and then of course there's the Christmas Market too! Set in the historical old quarter, the market is considered one of the most beautiful of them all, and stallholders from all.over Europe and beyond will be there to entice you with some fabulous gifts.
Day Four - Frankfurt
Take it easy and enjoy another day at Rüdesheim, or come with us as we head to Frankfurt for our next Christmas market visit. This modern city with its skyscrapers is home to one of the largest stock exchanges in Europe, attracting business travellers from all over the world, but that doesn't mean it's all glass and concrete! Frankfurt's Christmas market dates back to 1393 and is set in the beautiful squares of Römerburg and Paulsplatz. Local delicacies include Brenton and Bettmännchen that are baked marzipan treats and Quetschemännchen that are figures made from almonds!
Day Five - Trier
Time to leave Rüdesheim behind, but not Germany altogether as we visit one more Christmas market destination at Trier. Surrounded by medieval and Renaissance architecture, the Christmas market here has recently been voted the "Best in Germany" and sits in front of the imposing cathedral adding to the unique atmosphere. Handmade decorations, local dishes and the scent of Christmas in the air will make this stop one to remember!
From here we return to the Globales Post Hotel Liege for our final night, with a basic buffet style evening meal and continental breakfast the folowing morning included.
Day Six
Time to head home, but we won't make too early a start as we take you back through Northern France to board our early afternoon crossing for home. Arriving home late in the evening.
